Marlène Munroe de Montigny

Born in Campbellton, N.B., Canada, she was graduated from the University of Quebec with a B.F.A. and then studied at the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at M.I.T., Cambridge, Mass., U.S.A. She taught at the University of Quebec. In 1993, Amnesty International chose one of her paintings as the subject for their poster. The launching of the poster took place at the Museum of Quebec and was followed by international television coverage. She has worked in Vence, France, where she had a studio for eleven years and in Boca Raton, FL., U.S.A. in her gallery/studio for five years. The artist lives and works in Trois- Rivières, Quebec Her work is an expression of the emotion brought to and emanating from the carefully observed motif/figure. The often transparent figures are captured with strong, quick and accurate brush strokes of shadow and highlights over a coloured ground. The motifs of her painting: still life, landscape and the human figure present a range of emotion from the playful to the spiritual.
